This bulletin supplements Dealer Service Bulletin 81-I-84 dated September, 1981.
To improve the accessability to the air compressor mount- ing pivot bolts, a new base plate, P/N 2091148, entered production on January 11, 1982, replacing P/N 2039415 (see illustration).
In the event bolt loosening occurs causing fracture of the P/N 2039415, base plate, use of the current design will allow for adequate clearance to properly torque the pivot bolts to (160-170 lb. ft.) 217-230 N.m. Chevrolet has determined that when torque levels are maintained, satisfactory bracket life will occur.
Use of the P/N 2091148, bracket, will also require P/N 11502417, compressor drive belt.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
