This bulletin covers the introduction of a Designation System for Hydra-matic products that is consistent in defining the torque capacity and other features of our products. This Designation system will enhance Hydra-matic's worldwide product recognition, promote technical understanding, and designate the evolution of new or existing products. The new Designation system affects all Vehicles Equipped With Hydra-matic Transmission/Transaxles Foreign and Domestic.
The 1989 and 1990 model years will be transitional years with publications referencing both the new and previous designations. In the 1991 model year publications will no longer reference previous designations as changeover to the new designations will be complete.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
