Service Information

Condition

American Isuzu Motors Inc. has determined that certain 1995.5 NPR EFI models may have been shipped with an incorrect emission tune-up label installed on the air cleaner. In this condition, the vehicle may not meet requirements of the Application for Certificate for emissions.

Possible Cause

An obsolete (1994) emission tune-up label (GM Part No. 12550242/AIPDN Part No. 8-12550-242-0) may have been inadvertently installed instead of the correct (1995) emission tune-up label (GM Part No. 12551057/AIPDN Part No. 8-12551-057-0).

Correction

To correct this condition, an emission tune-up label kit will be mailed to each customer instructing them to inspect to see if they have the 1995 emission tune-up label on the engine air cleaner. If they do not, customers will be instructed to install the supplied 1995 emission tune-up label (GM Part No. 12551057/AIPDN Part No. 8-12551-057-0) on the air cleaner over the original label. Customers will also have the option of taking their vehicle to an authorized Isuzu commercial vehicle dealer to have this service performed.

Parts Information

The labels listed below are shipped with the Campaign Bulletin. Vehicle owners will receive an emission tune-up label kit consisting of the same emission tune-up label along with a special campaign label (campaign completion label) and a set of installation instructions. Any additional labels can be obtained from the American Isuzu Parts Distribution Network (AIPDN).

American Isuzu Motors Inc. (AIMI) will send a notification letter to owners of affected vehicles already retailed (See Enclosed Copy). Vehicle owners will receive an emission tune-up label kit containing a 1995 emission tune-up label and a special campaign label (campaign completion label) to install in their vehicle, along wit a set of installation instructions. If vehicle owners have any questions on installing the emission tune-up label kit, they are directed to call the Isuzu Care Team Line (1 800 643-4070). They are also instructed to call this number to confirm that the emission tune-up label kit installation has been completed.

Dealers should follow up with vehicle owners by sending a Campaign Reminder Notice (AIMI SVCF-1052) to all vehicle owners listed in the AIMI Campaign Report IVVC 123-1A. Dealers may obtain these postcards from their Regional Office.

Dealer Campaign Responsibility

Isuzu dealers are required to service all eligible vehicles at no charge to the owner, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is in a dealer's vehicle inventory, or arrives at a dealership for service, the dealer must take the necessary steps to ensure that this campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.

Each Isuzu commercial vehicle dealer will be supplied a copy of the AIMI Campaign Report (IWC-123-1A) listing affected vehicle assigned to their dealership. The report contains VIN and detailed owner information obtained from state motor vehicle registration records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, dealers are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign. If none of the affected vehicles are assigned to a dealership, no campaign report will be sent.

Service Procedure

    Object Number: 1254231 Size: SH

  5. If the original emission tune-up label has the incorrect (1994) part number, wipe the label thoroughly to provide a clean, dry surface area. Remove the paper backing from the 1995 emission tune-up label (GM Part No. 12551057/AIPDN Part No. 8-12551-057-0) and carefully apply it directly apply it directly over the original label. Press down firmly on the label to secure it in place.

DEAR ISUZU NPR-EFI OWNER:

What is the Condition?

American Isuzu Motors Inc. has determined that some 1995.5 NPR EFI vehicles may have been shipped with an incorrect emission tune-up label installed on the engine air cleaner. An obsolete 1994 emission tune-up label (Part No. 12550242) may have been inadvertently installed instead of the 1995 emission tune-up label (Part No. 12551057). In this condition, the vehicle may not meet requirements of the Application for Certificate for emissions.

What We Will Do

To correct this condition it will be necessary to inspect the original emission tune-up label affixed to your engine's air cleaner to determine whether that label is the correct (1995) emission tune-up label, and if not, to install a 1995 emission tune-up label. Since this 1995 emission tune-up label can easily be installed, and to provide a more convenient method of correction, we are providing you an emission tune-up label kit containing the 1995 emission tune-up label and a campaign completion label. This kit also contains some easy-to-follow installation instructions.

What You Should Do

You may inspect the emission tune-up label yourself and install the emission tune-up label kit by following the enclosed installation instructions. After completing the installation instructions, please contact the Isuzu Car Team Line at 1-800-643-4070 and confirm that you have completed the inspection and have installed the emission tune-up label kit, as appropriate.

However, if you desire, your Isuzu commercial vehicle dealer will perform the inspection and install the label kit for you at no charge. Should you choose to have you Isuzu commercial vehicle dealer perform this service for you, pleas bring this letter, along with the enclosed emission tune-up label kit, to your servicing Isuzu commercial vehicle dealer. Presentation of this letter to your dealer will assist in making the necessary correction in the shortest possible time. Instructions for performing this service have been sent to your Isuzu commercial vehicle dealer in Campaign Bulletin SB96-03-C001 . Please contact your Isuzu commercial vehicle dealer to arrange service date as soon as possible. This procedure will take approximately 15 minutes to complete, but you should ask how much additional time your dealer will need to schedule and process you vehicle.

Your Isuzu commercial dealer is best equipped to obtain parts and provide service to ensure that your vehicle is corrected as promptly as possible. If you believe that the condition has not been or cannot be remedied without charge within a reasonable time, you may contact the National Owner Relations Department, American Isuzu Motors Inc., P.O. Box 995, Whittier, CA, 90608-0995, or call the Isuzu Care Team Line at 1-800-643-4070 ext. 304.

In order to ensure your full protection under the emission warranty made applicable to your vehicle by State or Federal Law, and your right to participate in future recalls, it is recommended that you have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible. Failure to do so could legally be determined to be lack of proper maintenance of you vehicle. Also, your vehicle may fail a state or local emission inspection test if the emission tune-up label kit is not installed or you fail to notify the Isuzu Care Team Line. We apologize for this inconvenience; however, it is very important that the emission label be inspected and the emission tune-up label kit be installed by you or your Isuzu commercial vehicle dealer as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

AMERICAN ISUZU MOTORS INC.

Important: If you have sold or traded your Isuzu vehicle, please enter the current owner's name and address, if known, on the enclosed "Change of Information" postcard and drop it in the mail. Postage has already been paid. We will contact the new owner.
