    • J 23327 Spring Compressor
    • J 25018-A Adapter

    Object Number: 28743  Size: SH

    Important: If the intermediate clutch roller retaining ring has been removed, you must use a new ring.

  1. Remove the intermediate clutch roller retaining ring (627).

  2. Object Number: 28744  Size: SH
  3. Remove the intermediate clutch roller retainer (626).
  4. Remove the intermediate clutch roller outer race (625).
  5. Remove the intermediate clutch sprag assembly (624).
  6. Inspect the intermediate clutch sprag for damaged sprags, a damaged cage, or distorted springs.

  7. Object Number: 28746  Size: SH
  8. Remove the direct clutch backing plate retaining ring (616).
  9. Remove the direct clutch backing plate (617).
  10. Remove the direct clutch plates (611, 618).
  11. Remove the direct clutch apply plate (wave) (609).
  12. Inspect the direct clutch backing plate for damage and cracks.
  13. Inspect the direct clutch plates for wear, burned, flaking, scoring, and pitting.

  14. Object Number: 28747  Size: SH
  15. Install the J 23327 and the J 25018-A onto the direct clutch housing (623).
  16. Compress the direct clutch spring assembly (607).
  17. Remove the direct clutch spring retainer ring (608).
  18. Remove the tools.

  19. Object Number: 28764  Size: SH
  20. Remove the direct clutch spring and the retainer assembly (607).
  21. Inspect the direct clutch springs and the retainer assembly for collapsed coils and distortion.
  22. Remove the direct clutch piston (619).
  23. Remove the direct clutch piston inner (604) and outer (605) seals.
  24. Inspect the direct clutch piston for damage and cracks.

  25. Object Number: 31048  Size: SH
  26. Remove the direct clutch piston intermediate seal (622) from the direct clutch housing (623).
  27. Inspect the direct clutch housing for the following:
  28. • Cracks
    • Wear
    • Proper opening of oil passages
    • Checkball for free movement (rattles)
