    Notice: Use J 36850 or equivalent during assembly in order to retain checkballs or to lubricate components. Lubricants other than the recommended assembly lube changes the transmission fluid characteristics and causes undesirable shift conditions or filter clogging.

  1. Install the 8 checkballs (54) (9 some models) into the case passages:
  2. • The #2 checkball is only used on RCP, RDP, ZJP, and ZLP models
    • Use J 36850 or equivalent in order to hold the checkballs in place
  3. Install the PWM screen into the case (75).

  5. Install the manual valve (319) into the control valve body (44).

  6. Object Number: 40639  Size: SH
  7. Install the J 25025 -5 into the transmission case.
  8. Install the control valve body gasket (48).
  9. Install the control valve body assembly (44). Attach the manual valve to the detent lever while installing the control valve body assembly.

  10. Object Number: 40640  Size: SH
  11. Install the transmission fluid pressure manual valve position switch (40).
  12. Install the transmission fluid pressure manual valve position switch bolts (76) finger tight.

  13. Object Number: 40641  Size: SH
  14. Tighten the bolts (76) in sequence to 11 N·m (97 lb in).
  15. Remove J 25025 -5.

  16. Object Number: 40642  Size: SH
  17. Install the manual shaft detent roller and spring assembly (41) and bolts (35).
  18. Install the two wiring harness clips (33) and bolts (35).
  19. Install the fluid level indicator stop bracket (43), wiring harness clip (33) and bolts (35).
  20. Install the lube oil pipe (39) with the short end into the control valve body.
  21. Install the lube oil pipe retainers (37 & 38) and the bolts (36 & 35).
  22. Install the remaining control valve body bolts (35).

  23. Object Number: 40643  Size: SH

    Notice: Tighten the control valve assembly bolts in a spiral pattern starting from the center. If the bolts are tightened in a random pattern, the valve bores may become distorted, which can inhibit valve operation.

  24. Tighten the control valve assembly bolts (35, 36) sequentially.
  25. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).
