Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the crankshaft position sensor from the engine front cover.
Refer to
Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Remove the crankshaft balancer from the crankshaft. Refer to
Crankshaft Balancer Replacement
.
- Remove the fan shrouds from the radiator. Refer to
Fan Shroud Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the fan clutch assembly. Refer to
Fan Clutch Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the water pump from the engine block. Refer to
Water Pump Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the bolts from the front oil pan and loosen the rear bolts
to allow the oil pan to hang from the engine block. Refer to
Oil Pan Replacement
.
- Remove the engine front
cover mounting bolts.
Important: The engine front cover gasket is reusable. Replace only if gasket is
damaged.
- Remove the engine front cover from the engine block.
- Remove the crankshaft front cover oil seal.
Installation Procedure
Important: The engine front cover gasket is reusable. Replace only if gasket is
damaged.
- Install the engine front cover to the engine block.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the engine
front cover bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
- Install the crankshaft
front cover oil seal to the engine front cover.
- Install the oil pan to the engine block. Refer to
Oil Pan Replacement
.
- Install the crankshaft position sensor to the engine front cover.
Refer to
Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Install the water pump to the engine block. Refer to
Water Pump Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Install the crankshaft balancer to the crankshaft. Refer to
Crankshaft Balancer Replacement
.
- Install the fan clutch assembly. Refer to
Fan Clutch Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Install the fan shrouds to the radiator. Refer to
Fan Shroud Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
