Installation Procedure
Tools Required
J 22102 Seal Installer
- Install the three 5/16-18 bolts 4 to 5 inches long into the camshaft
threaded bolt holes. Use these bolts has a handle for the camshaft installation.
- Coat the camshaft lobes and journals with engine oil supplement
GM P/N 1052367 before installing the camshaft into the cylinder block.
- Install the camshaft into
the engine block. Use care to avoid damaging the camshaft journals or bearing
surfaces.
- Remove the three 5/16-18 bolts from the camshaft.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the camshaft
retainer and bolts in the engine block.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
