Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 41371 Reluctor Wheel Remover

J 8433-1 Puller

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the fan shrouds from the radiator. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the fan clutch asssembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  5. Remove the crankshaft balancer from the crankshaft. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  6. Remove the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Refer to Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
  7. Remove the water pump from the engine block. Refer to Water Pump Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  8. Remove the engine front cover from the engine block. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 181777  Size: SH
  10. Use the J 41371 and J 8433-1 to remove the reluctor ring from the crankshaft.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 65847  Size: SH

    Important: Replace the crankshaft position sensor whenever the crankshaft position reluctor ring is replaced.

  1. Install the crankshaft position reluctor ring on to the crankshaft.
  2. Install the engine front cover to the engine block. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement .
  3. Install the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Refer to Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
  4. Install the water pump to the engine block. Refer to Water Pump Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  5. Install the crankshaft balancer to the crankshaft. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  6. Install the fan clutch asssembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  7. Install the fan shrouds to the radiator. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  8. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
