J 22102 Front Cover Oil Seal Installer

  1. Install a NEW crankshaft front oil seal into the engine front cover using the J 22102 .
  2. Lubricate the sealing surface of the crankshaft front oil seal with clean engine oil.

  3. Object Number: 173190  Size: SH

    Important: The front cover must be installed and the fasteners tightened while the sealant is still wet to the touch.

  4. Apply the sealant GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent in two sealant points on the front cover where the front cover meets the oil pan.

  5. Object Number: 279805  Size: SH
  6. Install the engine front cover.

  7. Object Number: 342207  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the engine front cover bolts (1).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the engine front cover bolts (1) to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  10. Install the new O-ring seal onto the crankshaft position sensor. Apply clean engine oil to the O-ring.
  11. Install the crankshaft position sensor.
  12. Notice: This bolt is a self-tapping bolt. If installing this bolt into a new component, installation of the bolt may be difficult. Ensure that the bolt is not over-torqued during the initial installation (thread cutting). Failure to limit torque can lead to bolt failure.

  13. Install the crankshaft position sensor bolt.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft position sensor bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
