Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Object Number: 290953 Size: SH

Important: Prior to camshaft sensor removal, align the timing mark on the front engine cover and the crankshaft balancer to 0 degrees before top dead center (BTD). Be sure the bank 1 cylinder 1 is on the compression stroke, or that the intake and exhaust valves are closed.

  3. Remove the interior engine access cover if applicable.

  4. Object Number: 213421 Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor (2).
  6. Remove the camshaft position sensor retaining bolt (1).
  7. Remove the camshaft position sensor (2).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 43756 Size: SH

Important: Remove the camshaft sensors top cover. Install the camshaft sensor with the flat side of the cap toward the front of the engine.

  1. Rotate the oil pump drive shaft to accept the tang in the camshaft sensor drive. Align the mark on the gear of the camshaft sensor with the mark on the lower base of the camshaft sensor

  2. Object Number: 213421 Size: SH

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the camshaft sensor (2) and tighten the sensor clamp.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

  5. Install the camshaft sensors top cover.
  6. Connect the camshaft sensor electrical connector.
  7. Install the interior engine access cover if applicable.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
