Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Important: Do not try to disassemble the linear EGR valve. Service only as a complete assembly.

Important: Carefully note the position of the linear EGR valve before removal. Do not rotate the linear EGR valve 180 degrees.

  3. EGR system cleaning procedure. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe Replacement .
  4. Caution: Avoid breathing fumes and swallowing EGR exhaust deposits when removing components for cleaning as bodily injury may result.

    Object Number: 213415 Size: SH
  5. Remove the linear EGR valve electrical connector.
  6. Remove the linear EGR valve flange bolts (4).
  7. Notice: The Linear EGR valve is an electrical component. DO NOT soak in any liquid cleaner or solvent because damage may result.

  8. Remove the linear EGR valve (3).
  9. Remove the linear EGR valve flange gasket (2) form the intake manifold (1).
  10. Clean the linear EGR valve gasket surface.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 213415 Size: SH
  1. Install the new linear EGR valve flange gasket (2) to the intake manifold (1).
  2. Install the linear EGR valve (3).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the linear EGR valve flange bolts (4).
  5. Tighten

    1. Tighten the bolts the first time to 10 N·m (89 lb in) each.
    2. Tighten the bolts a final time to 22 N·m (16 lb ft) each.
  6. Install the linear EGR valve electrical connector.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
