Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 247024  Size: SH
  1. Set the parking brake.
  2. Block the vehicle wheels.
  3. Remove the following components from the shock absorber at the lower bracket:
  4. • The nut
    • The flat washer
    • The insulator

  5. Remove the following components from the shock absorber at the upper bracket:
  6. • The nut
    • The flat washer
    • The insulator
  7. Remove the shock absorber from the upper and the lower mounting brackets. Compress the shock absorber slightly in order to remove.
  8. Remove the remaining flat washers and the insulators.
  9. Clean the shock absorber of the following conditions:
  10. • Dirt
    • Oil
    • Corrosion
  11. Inspect the shock absorber for the following conditions:
  12. • Wear
    • Cracks
    • Damage
    • Signs of leaking
    • A bent damper rod
    • Worn or torn insulators
  13. Inspect the upper and the lower mounting brackets for the following conditions:
  14. • Cracks
    • Bends
    • Wear
    • Damage
  15. Inspect the frame mounting hole for the following conditions:
  16. • Cracks
    • Wear
    • Burrs
  17. Diagnose the shock absorbers. Refer to Struts or Shock Absorbers Bench Test in Suspension General Diagnosis.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 247024  Size: SH
  1. Install the flat washer and the insulator onto the shock absorber lower stem.
  2. Install the shock absorber lower stem into the lower mounting bracket.

  3. Object Number: 247480  Size: MH
  4. Install the flat washer and the insulator onto the shock absorber upper stem.
  5. Install the shock absorber upper stem into the upper mounting bracket.

  6. Object Number: 247024  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the following components onto the shock absorber lower stem:
  8. • The insulator
    • The flat washer
    • The nut

    Tighten
    Tighten the lower shock absorber nuts to 84 N·m (62 lb ft).

  9. Install the following components onto the shock absorber upper stem:
  10. • The insulator
    • The flat washer
    • The nut

    Tighten
    Tighten the upper shock absorber nuts to 84 N·m (62 lb ft).

  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Remove the blocks.
