LINK: J 28662 Brake Pedal Effort Gauge

Brake pedal travel is the distance the pedal moves toward the floor from a fully released position. Check the brake pedal travel frequently. Make this check with the brakes cold. Use LINK a brake pedal effort gauge to put 400 N (90 lb) of force on the pedal.

  1. Turn the engine off.
  2. Apply the brake pedal and release the brake pedal at least 3 times.
  3. For the first measurement, measure the distance from the bottom of the steering wheel to the brake pedal.
  4. For the second measurement, use LINK a brake pedal effort gauge to apply 400 N (90 lb) of force on the pedal.
  5. Subtract the first measurement from the second measurement.
  6. Compare this measurement with the following specifications:
  7. • The disc and the drum are 90 mm (3.5 in).
    • The four wheel disc is 150 mm (6 in).
  8. If the brake pedal travel is excessive, refer to LINK Excessive Brake Pedal Travel Table (7100-old number).
