The two types of calipers used are Bendix and Dayton-Walther. The calipers are held in place by a support key, a spring and a bolt assembly. The caliper mounts to the anchor plate.
The Dayton-Walther caliper is a dual piston type. The caliper and anchor plate V-ways will wear and eventually cause the caliper assembly to fit loosely. Dayton-Walther brakes use shims to adjust for this wear.
The Bendix is a single piston type. A seal in a groove of the wall in each bore provides a hydraulic seal and retracts the piston when fluid pressure is relieved. These calipers have oversize replacement keys available to compensate for wear at the caliper-to-anchor plate contact points. The keys are identified by marks. If wear is excessive, a rattle sound will be hear from the front brake area.
