Check the oil level.

Is the oil level low?

  1. Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to Locating Fluid Leaks .
  2. Repair any leaks that you find.
  3. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir:
  4. 3.1. Stop the engine.
    3.2. Add the power steering fluid. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations in General Information.
    3.3. Fill the reservoir to the proper fill level shown on the dipstick.

Does the groan in the power steering pump continue?

System OK

Check for poor pressure hose connections. This causes air in the oil.

Is the pressure hose connected adequately?

System OK

Go to Step 4

Torque the connector. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Does the groan in the power steering pump continue?
