Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 24393  Size: SH
  1. Remove the steering shaft clamp bolt, the nut, and the intermediate steering shaft from the miter box.

  2. Object Number: 24396  Size: SH
  3. Remove the bolt, the nut, and the washer from the lower steering coupling shaft.

  4. Object Number: 24400  Size: SH
  5. Remove the steering coupling shaft from the miter box.

  6. Object Number: 24407  Size: SH
  7. Remove the mounting bolts and the miter box from the mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 24407  Size: SH
  1. Use the mounting bolts in order to install the miter box onto the mounting bracket. Apply sealant GM P/N 9985345 to the threads of the bolts before tightening.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the steering shaft clamp nut to 61±6 N·m (45±4 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the steering coupling shaft on the miter box.

  4. Object Number: 24396  Size: SH
  5. Secure the steering coupling shaft on the miter box using the bolt, the washer and the nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 55±9 N·m (40±7 lb ft).

  7. Install the intermediate steering shaft on the miter box with the bolt and the nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 55±9 N·m (40±7 lb ft).
