PARK BRAKE AUTO APPLY AND FOOT PEDAL CABLE OUT OF ADJUSTMENT.
ADJUST AUTOMATIC APPLY PARK BRAKE AND PARK BRAKE FOOT APPLY CABLE SYSTEM FOLLOWING SERVICE PROCEDURE BELOW.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. RAISE VEHICLE AND SUPPORT WITH SAFETY STANDS. 2. PLACE THE COLUMN SHIFT SELECTOR LEVER IN "NEUTRAL" AND RUN THE ENGINE UNTIL THE PARKING BRAKE TELLTALE LAMP TURNS OFF. 3. DISCONNECT PROP SHAFT AT PARKING BRAKE DRUM. 4. DISCONNECT CLEVIS PIN (ITEM 1) IN LEVER BOX (NEAR TRANSMISSION) TO DISENGAGE ACTUATOR FROM PARKING BRAKE. THIS WILL ALLOW ADJUSTMENT OF THE PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY. 5. REMOVE THE DUST COVER ON PARKING BRAKE DRUM (ITEM 2) AND TURN THE DRUM TO ALIGN THE ACCESS HOLE IN THE DRUM WITH THE ADJUSTING STAR WHEEL. ADJUST STAR WHEEL UNTIL DRUM DOES NOT TURN. BACK OFF ADJUSTMENT BY 2 TO 4 NOTCHES. 6. DRUM SHOULD TURN FREELY WITH A MAXIMUM OF A LIGHT DRAG. 7. RECONNECT CLEVIS PIN (ITEM 1) IN LEVER BOX (NEAR TRANSMISSION) TO CONNECT ACTUATOR TO PARKING BRAKE. 8. TO OBTAIN CORRECT CABLE ADJUSTMENT, ADJUST THE PARKING BRAKE AUTO APPLY CABLE HEXAGONAL CLEVIS (ITEM 3) TO OBTAIN 31 MM TO 37 MM (1.30 INCHES TO 1.44 INCHES) TRAVEL AT THE ACTUATOR. TURN JAM NUT (ITEM 4) OUT AGAINST CABLE END FITTING AND TORQUE JAM NUT TO 48 N.M (35 LB FT). 9. WITH THE ENGINE OFF, MEASURE AND RECHECK ACTUATOR TRAVEL AFTER SHIFTING VEHICLE BETWEEN NEUTRAL AND PARK SEVERAL TIMES. IF THE ACTUATOR TRAVEL IS NOT 31 MM TO 37 MM (1.30 INCHES TO 1.44 INCHES), READJUST THE PARKING BRAKE AS DESCRIBED IN STEP 8. RECHECK AND READJUST AS REQUIRED. 10. RELEASE THE AUTO-APPLY PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM BY TURNING THE IGNITION ON AND PLACING THE COLUMN SHIFT SELECTOR LEVER IN NEUTRAL. ADJUST FOOT APPLY CABLE CLEVIS (ITEM 6) TO OBTAIN A FIRM PEDAL (60 LB. MINIMUM) AT 2-5 CLICKS. TORQUE JAM NUT (ITEM 7) AGAINST CLEVIS TO 7 N.M (5 LB FT). KENT-MOORE TOOL J 28662 IS AVAILABLE TO FACILITATE WITH THIS PEDAL ADJUSTMENT. 11. INSPECT TO ASSURE PROPER CLEARANCE OF CLEVIS AND COTTER PINS TO ALL OTHER COMPONENTS AND FOR PROPER OPERATION OF PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM. 12. RECONNECT PROP SHAFT. 13. LOWER THE VEHICLE.
