CAMPAIGN: WATER PUMP SEAL FAILURE

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN

SUBJECT: 97011 - WATER PUMP SEAL FAILURE ----------------------------------------

MODELS: 1995 CHEVROLET P3**72 REAR DIESEL-ENGINE PUSHER-CHASSIS MOTOR HOMES ---------------------------------------------------------------

General Motors has decided that certain 1995 P3**72 rear diesel-engine pusher-chassis motor homes may exhibit a condition in which air present in the cooling system can gravitate to the engine water pump. When this occurs, the water pump seal becomes dry, allowing coolant to leak out of the water pump. If the operator notices the temperature gauge rising as a result of the coolant loss, the vehicle can be stopped and towed in for repair. If the operator does not notice the temperature rising and continues driving the vehicle, the loss of coolant will cause excessive heat resulting in major engine damage.

To correct this condition, dealers are to install a bleeder valve to purge the system of air.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
