Fuel Gauge Always Indicates Full Gasoline

  1. Disconnect the connector at the instrument cluster.
  2. Install a fused jumper wire between B+ and instrument cluster pin 31.
  3. Install a fused jumper wire between instrument cluster pin 29 and the engine or chassis ground.
  4. Install a fused jumper wire between instrument cluster pin 23 and ground.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.

Does the fuel gauge indicate full?

Replace the instrument cluster.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Remove the fused jumper wires from the instrument cluster and connect the connector.
  2. Disconnect the connector at the fuel pump and sender.
  3. Connect a fused jumper wire between the fuel pump and sender connector cavity A and the engine or chassis ground.

Does the fuel gauge indicate full?

Locate and repair the open in the CKT 30 (PPL) wire between the following locations:

  1. Instrument cluster and connector C1 cavity 9 of the vehicle control module (VCM).
  2. CKT 1589 (PPL/WHT) wire between the VCM connector C3 cavity 13 and the fuel pump and sender cavity A.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the fuel pump and sender.

  3. Connect a fused jumper wire between the fuel gauge sender connector cavity B and the engine or chassis ground.

Locate and repair the open in the CKT 30 (PPL) wire between the instrument cluster and the fuel gauge sender.

Is the repair complete?

Install a fused jumper wire at the fuel gauge sender connector between cavity A and cavity B.

Does the fuel gauge indicate full?

Go to Step 6

Locate and repair the open in the CKT 451(BLK/WHT) wire between the fuel gauge sender and ground.

Is the repair complete?
