Charging System Warning Lamp
The charging system warning lamp appears on the instrument cluster as
a battery symbol. The charging system warning lamp turns on when both of the
following conditions exist:
• | The ignition switch is in the RUN position. |
• | The engine is not running. |
When the engine is running, the charging system warning lamp turns off
if the charging system functions properly. A charging system malfunction is
indicated when both of the following conditions exist:
• | The charging system warning lamp is on. |
The charging system warning lamp glows at full brilliance (not half-lit)
for any of the following reasons:
• | A charging system malfunction occurs. |
• | The system voltage is too high. |
• | The system voltage is too low. |
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL or SERVICE ENGINE SOON) should turn
off when both of the following conditions exist:
• | The ignition switch is in the RUN position. |
The MIL should turn off between 1 to 5 seconds after the engine
starts. If the lamp remains on or turns on during driving, service to the
emission control system may be required.
Brake Warning System
The brake warning system consists of the following two lamps in the
instrument cluster:
• | The antilock indicator lamp |
When the brake warning system finds ground through the pressure differential
switch in the combination valve, the brake warning lamp indicates that a low
fluid pressure condition exists in the brake system.
When the brake system finds ground through the parking brake switch,
the brake warning lamp indicates that the parking brake is applied.
The ANTILOCK lamp indicates four wheel antilock system operation and
malfunctions. A bulb inspection is performed every time the ignition switch
is turned to the RUN position. The lamp should turn on and remain on
for about 2 seconds.
CHECK GAUGES Lamp
The CHECK GAUGES lamp turns ON when either or both of the following
conditions exist:
• | The engine coolant temperature is too high. |
• | The engine oil pressure is too low. |
The CHECK GAUGES lamp driver monitors the following components:
• | The engine coolant temperature sensor |
• | The engine oil pressure sender |
The CHECK GAUGES lamp driver is part of the temperature gauge circuit
board inside the instrument cluster. The CHECK GAUGES lamp driver controls
the current to the CHECK GAUGES lamp.
Electronic PRNDL
Vehicles with automatic transmissions have an electronic Park Reverse
Neutral Drive Low (PRNDL) range indicator. The system utilizes signals from
the Neutral Safety Back Up (NSBU) switch on the side of the transmission.
Signals from the switch determine which LEDs in the electronic PRNDL
will light. Since the system is entirely electronic, no adjustment
is necessary.
Seat Belt Warning System
This vehicle has an enhanced seat belt warning system. The system activates
a warning lamp for approximately 75 seconds and a buzzer for approximately
8 seconds when both of the following conditions exist:
• | The ignition switch is turned to the RUN position. |
• | The driver's seat belt is not buckled. |
The warning lamp remains constant for the first 20 seconds. The
warning lamp then flashes for the remaining 55 seconds.
The buzzer only turns on and remains on when the driver's seat belt
is not fastened during the 8 second time period.
Refer to the following lists for the warning lamp and buzzer sequence
of operation:
Driver's Seat Belt Unbuckled
- Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
- The warning lamp illuminates constantly for 20 seconds.
- The warning lamp flashes for the remaining 55 seconds.
- The buzzer turns on and remains on for 8 seconds.
- The buzzer turns off after the 8 second time period.
- If the driver's seat belt is buckled before the 8 second
time period elapses, the following actions will occur:
• | The buzzer will turn off. |
• | The lamp will remain on for the remainder of the time period. |
Driver's Seat Belt Buckled
- Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
- The warning lamp turns on.
- The buzzer remains off.
- The warning lamp turns off after 75 seconds.
- If the driver's seat belt buckle is unbuckled before the 8 second
time period elapses, the buzzer will turn on for the remainder of the 8 second
time period.
