CAMPAIGN: TIME DELAY RELAY TRUCKS W/AUXILIARY FUEL TANK

GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT SOME 1980 CHEVROLET CK 10, 20, AND 30 SERIES LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH RPO NL2 AUXILIARY FUEL TANK WERE ASSEMBLED WITH TIME DELAY RELAYS THAT ARE SENSITIVE TO LOW BATTERY VOLTAGES THAT MAY BE EXPERIENCED DURING ENGINE CRANKING.

THIS CONDITION CAN RESULT IN AN INABILITY TO SWITCH FROM THE MAIN TO THE AUXILIARY FUEL TANK.

TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION DEALERS ARE TO INSPECT AND IF REQUIRED ARE TO REPLACE THE TIME DELAY RELAY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS OUTLINED IN THIS BULLETIN.

COMPUTER LISTINGS CONTAIN THE COMPLETE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, OWNER NAME AND ADDRESS DATA, AND ARE FURNISHED TO THE INVOLVED DEALERS WITH THE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN. OWNER NAME AND ADDRESS DATA FURNISHED WILL ENABLE DEALERS TO FOLLOW UP WITH OWNERS INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN.

THESE LISTINGS MAY CONTAIN OWNER NAMES AND ADDRESSES OBTAINED FROM STATE MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION RECORDS. THE USE OF SUCH MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION DATA FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE IS A VIOLATION OF LAW IN SEVERAL STATES. ACCORDINGLY, YOU ARE URGED TO LIMIT THE USE OF THIS LISTING FOR THE FOLLOW-UP NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THIS CAMPAIGN.

ANY DEALER NOT RECEIVING A COMPUTER LISTING WITH THE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN WAS NOT SHIPPED ANY INVOLVED VEHICLES.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THIS CAMPAIGN ON THEIR VEHICLES BY CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION (SEE COPY OF OWNER LETTER INCLUDED WITH THIS BULLETIN).

DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY

THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN IS TO BE PERFORMED AT NO CHARGE TO OWNERS ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES REGARDLESS OF TIME, MILEAGE, OR OWNERSHIP. DEALERS ARE TO INSPECT AND CORRECT ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES IN NEW AND USED VEHICLE STOCK PRIOR TO THEIR SALE.

WHENEVER A VEHICLE SUBJECT TO THIS CAMPAIGN IS TAKEN INTO YOUR NEW OR USED VEHICLE INVENTORY, OR IT IS IN YOUR DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE IN THE FUTURE, YOU SHOULD TAKE THE STEPS NECESSARY TO BE SURE THE CAMPAIGN CORRECTION HAS BEEN MADE.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

IDENTIFY VEHICLE BY VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER AS BEING WITHIN APPLICABLE VIN BREAKPOINT RANGE AND EQUIPPED WITH RPO (NL2) AUXILIARY FUEL TANK.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. LOCATE TIME DELAY RELAY ATTACHED TO THE FUSE PANEL IN THE LEFT, UNDER DASH AREA.

2. INSPECT TIME DELAY RELAY AND IF DATE CODE ON COVER IS WITHIN THOSE IDENTIFIED BELOW, REPLACE WITH NEW DELAY RELAY, P/N 14014527 (REFER FIGURE 1).

NOTE: TIME DELAY RELAYS WITH DATE CODES OTHER THAN THOSE IDENTIFIED ABOVE DO NOT REQUIRE REPLACEMENT.

3. INSPECT TO INSURE PROPER CONNECTION OF GROUND WIRE AT BUS BAR LOCATED ON PARKING BRAKE BRACKET (REFER FIGURE 1).

PART NUMBER 14014527 (TIME DELAY RELAY) REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE PROGRAM ARE TO BE OBTAINED FROM YOUR CHEVROLET ZONE SERVICE DEPARTMENT.

DUE TO THE LIMITED NUMBER OF VEHICLES WHICH MAY REQUIRE PARTS, DEALERS ARE REQUESTED TO ONLY ORDER THE ACTUAL NUMBER REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. PARTS WILL BE FURNISHED TO THE DEALER ON A NO CHARGE BASIS.

PARTS ARE NOT TO BE ORDERED FROM OR RETURNED TO GENERAL MOTORS PARTS DIVISION.

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

EACH VEHICLE MODIFIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS OUTLINED IN THIS PRODUCT CAMPAIGN BULLETIN WILL REQUIRE A "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL". EACH LABEL PROVIDES A SPACE TO INCLUDE THE FIVE DIGIT DEALER CODE OF THE DEALER PERFORMING THE CAMPAIGN SERVICE. THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INSERTED WITH A TYPEWRITER OR BALLPOINT PEN.

EACH "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" IS TO BE LOCATED ON THE RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT IN AN AREA WHICH WILL BE VISIBLE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT IN FOR PERIODIC SERVICING BY THE OWNER.

APPLY "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" ONLY ON A CLEAN DRY SURFACE.
