DIESEL: BLACK SMOKE/LOW POWER PLUGGED EGR SOLEND.VENT FILTER

Model and Year 1984 "C/K/G/P" TRUCKS AND VANS WITH 6.2L DIESEL ENGINE AND CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS

The vent filter should be checked when the vehicle has been operating under dusty or muddy conditions or in extensive off-road use.

If the vent filter should become plugged, the EGR may be on full time resulting in black smoke and/or reduced response from the engine. Should you encounter this condition, check the EGR solenoid assembly vent filter and replace if necessary. Replacement filters are available from WDDGM as P/N 6488126.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
