Effective with 1985 models produced after May 1985, Impala, Caprice, Camaro and Monte Carlo's with LB4, LG4, and L69 engines will use a five (5) rib Poly-Vee alternator belt and associated pulleys. Vehicles returned for service due to customer comments of belt slippage and/or belt failure can be handled successfully with proper belt usage and tensioning procedures.
On vehicles returned for service due to repeated alternator drive belt failure, the following list of replacement pulleys are released for service. The same Poly-Wee belt, P/N 14088983, and alternator pulley, P/N 10495231, will be used in all instances.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
