CAMPAIGN: INCORRECT VEHICLE EMISSION CONTROL INFO. LABEL

Model and Year: 1985 CHEVROLET C10 TRUCK MODELS EQUIPPED WITH RPO LB1, -------------- 4.3L V6 ENGINE (VIN CODE "N"), MANUAL TRANSMISSION, FEDERAL EMISSIONS LESS DUAL FUEL TANKS

TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

General Motors has determined that some 1985 Chevrolet C10 Truck models equipped with RPO LB1 4.3L V6 Engine (VIN Code "N"), Manual Transmission, Federal Emissions Less Dual Fuel Tanks may have been assembled with an incorrect Vehicle Emission Control Information label. The label incorrectly identifies the engine tune-up specifications.

To correct this condition a new revised emission label has been issued. This label will be sent directly to all involved owners in order to eliminate owner inconvenience. Owners may install the new label or ask a dealer to do this service at no charge to the owner.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are certain 1985 Chevrolet C10 Truck Models equipped with RPO LB1 4.3L V6 Engine (VIN Code "N"), Manual Transmission, Federal Emissions less Dual Fuel Tanks within the following parameters:

Involved vehicles have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number Computer Listings. Computer listings contain the complete Vehicle Identification Number, owner name and address data, and are furnished to the involved dealers with the campaign bulletin. Owner name and address data furnished will enable dealers to follow-up with owners involved in this campaign.

These listings may contain owner names and addresses obtained from State Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign. Any dealer not receiving a computer listing with the campaign bulletin was not shipped any involved vehicles.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

Owners will be notified of this campaign on their vehicles by Chevrolet Motor Division (see copy of Owner Letter included with this bulletin).

DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY

Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.

WHENEVER A VEHICLE SUBJECT TO THIS CAMPAIGN IS TAKEN INTO YOUR NEW OR USED VEHICLE INVENTORY, OR IT IS IN YOUR DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE IN THE FUTURE, YOU SHOULD TAKE THE STEPS NECESSARY TO BE SURE THE CAMPAIGN CORRECTION HAS BEEN MADE BEFORE RESELLING OR RELEASING THE VEHICLE.

Owners of vehicles recently sold from your new vehicle inventory are to be contacted by the dealer, and arrangements made to make the required modification according to instructions contained in this bulletin.

PARTS INFORMATION

A new revised emission label will be mailed to owners of record or involved dealers. If however, the label is misplaced a replacement label may be obtained through your Zone Service Department. Do not order labels from GMWDD.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Open hood of vehicle and locate old emission label. This label is located on a panel just above the radiator assembly (see illustration).

2. Using a clean dry cloth, wipe dirt, oil, etc., from the old label and surrounding area.

3. Remove backing from the new label, and apply new label directly over the old label.

4. Beginning at the center of the label and using a clean dry cloth, smooth and secure the new label. Any air bubbles can be removed by puncturing with a pin and smoothing with the cloth.

NOTICE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE OR LOOSEN THE NEW LABEL ONCE IT HAS BEEN ------ APPLIED, AS THIS WILL DEFACE THE LABEL.

5. Install Campaign completion label and close hood.

CLAIM INFORMATION

Submit a Product Campaign Claim with the information indicated below:

DESCRIPTION: Install emission label according to instructions in ----------- Service Procedure.

*Campaign Administrative Allowance.

Dealers will automatically receive the correct labor allowance based on the Labor Operation performed.

Refer to the Chevrolet Claims Processing Manual for details on Product Campaign claim submission.

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

Each vehicle modified in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Product Campaign Bulletin will require a "Campaign Identification Label." Each label provides a space to include the five digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ballpoint pen.

Each "Campaign Identification Label" is to be located on the radiator core support in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in for periodic servicing by the owner.

Apply "Campaign Identification Label" only on a clean dry surface.

REFER TO THE CURRENT CHEVROLET SERVICE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES MANUAL AND CLAIMS PROCESSING MANUAL FOR CAMPAIGN HANDLING AND ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES.

General Motors has determined that some 1985 Chevrolet C10 Truck models equipped with RPO LB1 4.3L V6 engine (VIN Code "N"), manual transmission, Federal Emissions and without Dual Fuel Tanks may have been assembled with an incorrect Vehicle Emission Control Information Label.

To correct this condition a new revised emission label has been issued. For your convenience this label is being sent to you directly. You may install it yourself or ask your Chevrolet dealer for assistance. Installation instructions can be found on the reverse side of this letter.

If you install the new label or if you have sold or traded your vehicle, please complete the enclosed postage paid owner reply card and mail it to us. This will assist us in assuring that all affected vehicles have been corrected.
