CAMPAIGN: ENGINE OIL COOLER LINES MAY FAIL

MODELS: 1985 C/K/C/P Light Duty Model Trucks Equipped With an Engine Oil Cooler

TO: ALL AFFECTED DEALERS:

DEFECT INVOLVED:

General Motors has determined that some 1985 C/K/G/P Light Duty trucks equipped with a gasoline engine or a 6.2L Diesel engine that have an engine oil cooler, RPO KC4, may experience failure of the engine oil cooler hose/hoses. During normal operation the hoses may burst, resulting in a rapid engine oil loss which could result in internal engine damage.

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, involved vehicles must be inspected for suspect oil cooler lines and replacement lines installed if necessary.

VEHICLES INVOLVED:

Involved are certain 1985 C/K/G,'P light Duty model trucks equipped with an engine oil cooler. The oil cooler is available on some involved vehicles equipped with gas engines and is standard on P35 Models equipped with a 7.4L engine (RPO LE8) or on 6.2L diesel (RPO LH6 or LL4) equipped vehicles.

The vehicles involved were built within the following plant and VIN breakpoints.

Dear General Motors Customer:

General Motors has determined that some 1985 C/K/G/P Light Duty trucks equipped with a gasoline engine or a 6.2L diesel engine that have an engine oil cooler, RPO KC4, may experience failure of the engine oil cooler hose/hoses. During normal operation the hoses may burst, resulting in a rapid engine oil loss which could result in internal engine damage.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
