6.2 DIESEL:ENGINE OIL LEAKS CRANKCASE VENT SYSTEM

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1982-85 C,K,G,P - 1, 2, 3 with 6.2L Diesel Engine -------------------------------------------------

In the event that engine oil leaks are experienced on the above models, an inspection of the crankcase ventilation system should be conducted following the procedure outlined in section 6E9 of the Light Duty Service Manual.

If a vacuum leak has been diagnosed, the technician should be aware that it is possible for the steel screw-type hose clamps used on 1982 through 1985 6.2L diesel engines to cut into the hose connectors. This may cause a vacuum leak, allowing the crankcase to become pressurized, and subsequent seal or gasket leakage could result. A plastic snap hose clamp has been released to address this condition.

Whenever CDR system hoses are inspected, all steel hose clamps should be replaced. The hoses and new plastic snap clamp part numbers are released for C, K, G, P trucks as follows:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
