Removal Procedure
- Lift upward on the accelerator pedal (3) to relieve tension on
the cable (2).
- Remove the retainer from the accelerator pedal lever hole.
- Remove the cable from the slot in the accelerator pedal lever.
- Remove the accelerator pedal mounting bolts.
- Remove the accelerator pedal.
Installation Procedure
Important: The accelerator cable is not to be kinked or damaged in any way during
installation.
- Ensure that the mounting surface between the accelerator pedal assembly
and the dash panel is free of insulation. The carpet and padding in the pedal
and tunnel area must be positioned to lay flat and be free of wrinkles
and bunches. Wire, hoses, cables, and other flexible components should
not be within 13 mm (0.52 in) of the cable or lever, at
any point in their travel.
- Install the accelerator pedal to the dash panel.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the accelerator
pedal mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
- Lift upward on the accelerator pedal (3).
- Insert the cable (2) through the accelerator pedal lever
slot.
- Press the retainer into the lever hole until fully seated.
Important: The pedal must operate freely without binding through the full range
of pedal movement.
- Check the pedal for free movement by pressing down on the pedal.
