- Compass variance is the difference between
magnetic North and geographic North.
- The difference between magnetic and geographic North can be great
enough to cause the compass to give false readings.
- Compass variance is compensated by calibrating
the compass.
In order to calibrate the compass successfully, refer to the map in
the figure in order to determine the zone number to be entered into the compass.
The mirror is preset to Zone 8.
- In order to set the compass variance, perform the following procedure:
• | Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. |
• | With the display turned ON, push the COMP button for 3 seconds. |
• | The Zone selection will show in the mirror compass window. |
• | Toggle until the correct zone is found. |
• | The display will show the all segments and return to the normal
compass mode within 10 seconds of no switch activity. |
