Subject: | Passenger Side Air Bag Indicator Changes from Off to On |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
The below information can be found in the Owners manual, pages 1-76 and 1-77 or SI Doc ID Number 879279.
The passenger sensing system is designed to enable the right front passenger's air bag anytime the system senses a person of adult size is sitting properly in the right front passenger's seat.
If a person of adult-size is sitting in the right front passenger's seat, but the off indicator is lit or changing back and forth from off to on, it could be because the person isn't sitting properly in the seat or the system has not completed its detection procedure.
Have the person place the seatback in the full upright position, then sit upright in the seat, centered on the seat cushion, with the person's legs comfortably extended. Start the vehicle and have the person remain in this position for about two minutes. This will allow the system to detect the person and then enable the passenger's air bag.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
