The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A pop and or creak noise when making slow speed maneuvers and/or starting and stopping. This noise can sound like it is coming from the front or rear suspension, or the propshaft. Do not replace the propshaft for this condition. The noise may be coming from the left rear upper shock bracket.
With the suspension loaded, look through the left rear wheel opening. Inspect for the top of the shock to be contacting the upper shock bracket.
Note: When the truck is on a hoist and the suspension is hanging, the shock may not be contacting the bracket. Inspect the top of the shock and shock bracket for any witness marks.
If contact is found, it will be necessary to file off some of the upper shock mounting bracket to provide additional clearance. It will be necessary to maintain 15.5 millimeters of the shock bracket flange to the outer edge of the shock bracket bolt hole. Measure from the outer edge of the bolt hole in-between the 7:00 and 8:00 position. Apply GM part number 12346501 Coating - Anti-corrosion to the bare metal to protect it from rusting.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
