DELAYED OR ERRATIC UPSHIFTS INFORMATION/700 TRANS

Some 1982 full size Chevrolets, Corvettes and "C-K" trucks equipped with the 700-R4 transmission may experience delayed or erratic upshifts. This could result from rotation of the throttle valve (T.V.) sleeve in the valve body (see illustration).

Rotation of the sleeve allows the throttle valve exhaust hole, in the sleeve, to be restricted or completely blocked by the valve body bore.

The throttle valve sleeve is retained both axially and rotationally in the valve body by use of a press fit roll pin. If this roll pin is not completely seated in the slot of the sleeve, rotation may occur.

This can be remedied by correctly positioning the sleeve slot and tapping the pin in deeper.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
