NOTE: THIS IS WITH FURTHER REFERENCE TO THE 1992 SUBURBAN STOP DELIVERY NOTIFICATION DCS ADMIN 01-175 DATED JUNE 12, 1992. AFTER PERFORMING THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THE SERVICE PROCEDURE SECTION BELOW, INVOLVED

THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO MAKE THIS SUBURBAN CAMPAIGN AS SMOOTH AS POSSIBLE FOR OUR OWNERS.

THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER (CAC) WILL BE CONTACTING INVOLVED OWNERS AND DEALERS TO COORDINATE CAMPAIGN REPAIRS ON SOLD AND STOCK UNITS. REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE IN LIMITED SUPPLY. PARTS AVAILABILITY WILL BE UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AND GMSPO BY VIN.

CAC PERSONNEL WILL BEGIN CONTACTING OWNERS ON JULY 14, 1992. THE CONTACTING OPERATION WILL TAKE ABOUT ONE WEEK. OWNERS CONTACTED BY CAC WILL BE ADVISED OF THE RECALL. OWNERS WILL BE ASKED FOR THE NAME OF THE DEALER THEY WISH TO HAVE PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIRS. CAC WILL SUGGEST THE SELLING DEALER PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE SELLING DEALER OR OTHER DEALER SPECIFIED BY THE OWNER WILL THEN BE CONTACTED BY CAC TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT AND TO COORDINATE CAMPAIGN PARTS SHIPMENT TO THE DEALER.

AFTER THREE TELEPHONE ATTEMPTS, OWNERS WHO CANNOT BE CONTACTED WILL BE SENT A LETTER FROM CAC ADVISING THEM OF THE ATTEMPTED TELEPHONE CONTACT AND THAT THEY CONTACT THEIR DEALER OR CAC TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE THE CAMPAIGN PERFORMED.

CAC PERSONNEL WILL ALSO CONTACT INVOLVED DEALERS TO COORDINATE CAMPAIGN PARTS SHIPMENT FOR STOCK UNITS. DEALERS ARE NOT TO ORDER CAMPAIGN PARTS DIRECTLY FROM GMSPO AT THIS TIME.

DEFECT INVOLVED:

GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT CERTAIN 1992 C/K SUBURBANS EQUIPPED WITH 7.4L ENGINES (L19) AND AUXILIARY REAR HEATER (C36) MAY DEVELOP AN ENGINE COOLANT LEAK FROM THE AUXILIARY REAR HEATER OUTLET HOSE. THE LEAK IS CAUSED BY A HEAT DETERIORATION OF THE HOSE MATERIAL AS A RESULT OF ITS CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE RIGHT-HAND EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THE LEAK COULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN A TOTAL LOSS OF ENGINE COOLANT.

TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION DEALERS ARE TO INSTALL A NEW REAR HEATER INLET/OUTLET HOSE ASSEMBLY WITH PROTECTIVE HEAT INSULATION.

VEHICLES INVOLVED:

INVOLVED ARE CERTAIN 1992 C/K SUBURBANS WITH 7.4L ENGINES (L19) AND AUXILIARY REAR HEATER (C36) BUILT WITHIN THE FOLLOWING VIN BREAKPOINTS:

PLANT YEAR MODEL PLANT CODE FROM THROUGH ---- ----- ----- ----- ---- ------- 1992 C/K JANESVILLE "J" SOP NJ345036 20906

THIS CAMPAIGN INVOLVES APPROXIMATELY 900 VEHICLES.

INVOLVED VEHICLES HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED BY VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER COMPUTER LISTINGS. COMPUTER LISTINGS CONTAIN THE COMPLETE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, OWNER NAME AND ADDRESS DATA, AND WILL BE MAILED TO INVOLVED DEALERS WITH A PAPER COPY OF THIS ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE THE WEEK OF JULY 20, 1992. OWNER NAME AND ADDRESS DATA FURNISHED WILL ENABLE DEALERS TO FOLLOW-UP WITH OWNERS INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN.

THESE LISTINGS MAY CONTAIN OWNER NAMES AND ADDRESSES OBTAINED FROM STATE MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION RECORDS. THE USE OF SUCH MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION DATA FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE IS A VIOLATION OF LAW IN SEVERAL STATES. ACCORDINGLY, YOU ARE URGED TO LIMIT THE USE OF THIS LISTING TO THE FOLLOW-UP NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THIS CAMPAIGN.

OWNER NOTIFICATION:

OWNERS WILL BE CONTACTED BY THE CHEVROLET ASSISTANCE CENTER. ADDITIONALLY, OWNERS WILL ALSO BE NOTIFIED BY LETTER OF THIS CAMPAIGN ON THEIR VEHICLES BY CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION (SEE COPY OF OWNER LETTER INCLUDED WITH THIS ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE).

DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY:

ALL UNSOLD NEW VEHICLES IN DEALERS' POSSESSION AND SUBJECT TO THIS CAMPAIGN MUST BE HELD AND INSPECTED/REPAIRED PER THE SERVICE PROCEDURE OF THIS CAMPAIGN BULLETIN BEFORE OWNERS TAKE POSSESSION OF THESE VEHICLES.

DEALERS ARE TO SERVICE ALL VEHICLES SUBJECT TO THIS CAMPAIGN AT NO CHARGE TO OWNERS, REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE, AGE OF VEHICLE, OR OWNERSHIP, FROM THIS TIME FORWARD.

OWNERS OF VEHICLES RECENTLY SOLD FROM YOUR NEW VEHICLE INVENTORY ARE TO BE CONTACTED BY THE DEALER, AND ARRANGEMENTS MADE TO MAKE THE REQUIRED CORRECTION ACCORDING TO INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THIS BULLETIN.

IN SUMMARY, WHENEVER A VEHICLE SUBJECT TO THIS CAMPAIGN ENTERS YOUR VEHICLE INVENTORY, OR IS IN YOUR DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE IN THE FUTURE, PLEASE TAKE THE STEPS NECESSARY TO BE SURE THE CAMPAIGN CORRECTION HAS BEEN MADE BEFORE SELLING OR RELEASING THE VEHICLE.

PART INFORMATION:

PARTS ARE UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AND GMSPO BY VIN. CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER PERSONNEL WILL CONTACT INVOLVED OWNERS AND DEALERS TO COORDINATE CAMPAIGN PARTS SHIPMENT FOR SOLD AND STOCK UNITS.

THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INSERTED WITH A TYPEWRITER OR A BALL POINT PEN.

EACH "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" IS TO BE LOCATED ON THE RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT IN AN AREA WHICH WILL BE VISIBLE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT IN FOR PERIODIC SERVICING BY THE OWNER. ADDITIONAL "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABELS" CAN BE OBTAINED FROM DAC.

APPLY "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" ONLY ON A CLEAN, DRY SURFACE.

DEAR CHEVROLET SUBURBAN OWNER:

THIS NOTICE IS SENT TO INFORM YOU THAT CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION IS CONDUCTING A RECALL CAMPAIGN THAT INCLUDES YOUR VEHICLE.

REASON FOR THIS RECALL

WHAT WE WILL DO

TO PREVENT THIS CONDITION FROM OCCURRING, YOUR DEALER WILL INSTALL A NEW REAR HEAT INLET/OUTLET HOSE ASSEMBLY WITH PROTECTIVE HEAT INSULATION. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR CHEVROLET DEALER IF THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER HAS NOT ALREADY ARRANGED A SERVICE DATE WITH YOU AND YOUR DEALER. INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING THIS CORRECTION HAVE BEEN SENT TO YOUR DEALER AND PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. PLEASE ASK YOUR DEALER IF YOU WISH TO KNOW HOW MUCH TIME WILL BE NEED TO SCHEDULE AND PROCESS YOUR VEHICLE.

THE ENCLOSED OWNER REPLY CARD IDENTIFIES YOUR VEHICLE. PRESENTATION OF THIS CARD TO YOUR DEALER WILL ASSIST IN MAKING THE NECESSARY CORRECTION IN THE SHORTEST POSSIBLE TIME. IF YOU HAVE SOLD OR TRADED YOUR VEHICLE, PLEASE LET US KNOW BY COMPLETING THE POSTAGE PAID REPLY CARD AND RETURNING IT TO US.

WE ARE SORRY TO CAUSE YOU THIS INCONVENIENCE; HOWEVER, WE HAVE TAKEN THIS ACTION IN THE INTEREST OF YOUR CONTINUED SATISFACTION WITH OUR PRODUCTS.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
