Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 23523-F Crankshaft Balancer Puller and Installer
    • J 22102 Oil Seal Installer
  1. Install the crankshaft balancer key, if removed.
  2. Coat the engine front cover sealing area with clean engine oil.
  3. Important: The inertial weight section of the crankshaft balancer is assembled to the hub with a rubber-type material. The correct installation procedures (with the proper tool) must be followed or movement of the inertial weight section of the hub will destroy the balancer and will have to be replaced.

    Object Number: 64935 Size: SH
  4. Install the engine front cover seal using the J 22102 . The open end of the seal faces the inside of the engine.
  5. Install the stud to the crankshaft.
  6. Thread the stud fully into the tapped hole in the crankshaft.

  7. Install the crankshaft balancer (external) over the end of the stud.
  8. Align the keyway in the crankshaft balancer with the crankshaft key.

  13. Tighten
Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 149 N·m (110 lb ft).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  14. Install the accessory drive pulley.
  15. Install the engine cooling fan. Engine Cooling Fan Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  16. Install the negative battery cable.
