Tools Required

    • J 38729 Piston Seal Protector
    • J 38734 Adapter
    • J 23327 Clutch Piston Spring Compressor

    Object Number: 31117 Size: SH
  1. Install the J 38729 onto the overrun clutch housing (504).
  2. Lubricate the overrun clutch piston seal with DEXRON® III transmission fluid.
  3. Assemble the overrun clutch piston (505) onto the overrun clutch housing (504).

    4. Important: Keep the overrun clutch piston level while rotating in order to avoid damaging the seal.

  4. Rotate the overrun clutch piston in order to aid in assembly.

    5. Object Number: 31119 Size: SH
  5. Place the overrun clutch spring assembly (506) onto the overrun clutch piston (505).
  6. Compress the overrun clutch spring assembly (506) using J 23327 and J 38734 .
  7. Install the overrun clutch spring retainer ring (507).

    8. Object Number: 31120 Size: SH
  8. Install the overrun clutch plates (508, 509).
  9. Alternate the clutch plates, starting with the steel clutch plate (3 steel, 3 composite).
  10. Install the overrun clutch backing plate (510).

    11. Object Number: 31112 Size: SH
  11. Install the overrun clutch backing plate retainer ring (511).
