Removal Procedure

Important: Valve rocker arm cover gaskets are reusable. Replace the valve rocker arm cover gasket only if damaged.

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Cable in Engine Electrical.
  4. Remove the intake air resonator. Refer to Intake Air Resonator Replacement .
  5. Remove the air cleaner intake duct from the throttle body. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement .
  6. Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plug. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  8. Remove the PVC valve from then valve rocker arm cover if necessary.

  10. Remove the engine vent tube from the throttle body if necessary.
  11. Remove the throttle body from the intake manifold if necessary. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls..

  12. Object Number: 64534  Size: SH
  13. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
  14. Remove the valve rocker arm cover from the cylinder head.
  15. Remove the valve rocker arm cover gasket from the cylinder head.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 64534  Size: SH
  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover gasket to the cylinder head.
  2. Install the valve rocker arm cover to the cylinder head.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  6. Install the throttle body to the upper intake manifold. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement .

  8. Install the engine vent tube to the throttle body if necessary.

  9. Object Number: 173187  Size: SH
  10. Install the PVC valve to the valve rocker arm cover if necessary.
  11. Install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  12. Install the intake air resonator to the throttle body. Refer to Intake Air Resonator Replacement .
  13. Install the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement .
  14. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Cable in Engine Electrical.
  15. Close the hood.
