Assembly Procedure

    Object Number: 324902 Size: SH

    Important: Lubricate all moving parts of the linear shift assembly with synthetic grease.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the gearshift lever assembly support bracket and secure by using the 3 flat head 6-lobed socket tap screws.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 10 N·m(89 lb in).

  2. Insert the cam bushing (2) into the cable shift cam assembly (1).
  3. Install the cable shift cam assembly (1).
  4. Install the hexagon flange head bolt.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 18 N·m (14 lb ft).

  5. Install the park lock cable assembly and secure by using 2 oval head 6-lobed socket tap screws.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 6.5 N·m (58 lb in).

  6. Install the shift lever clevis (1).
  7. Install the ball actuator assembly (2).
  8. Install the hexagon flanged head bolt.

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 18 N·m (14 lb ft).

  9. Put the column in the neutral position.
  10. Install the electrical BTSI actuator only. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Assemble - Off Vehicle .

  11. Install the park lock cable (1) into the lock module assembly.
  12. Place steering column lock cylinder set into the off position.
  13. Place the shift lever clevis into the park position.
  14. Press the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) into the slot in the lock module assembly.
  15. Inspect the park lock cable assembly by performing the following steps.
    16. 15.1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
    15.2. Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the OFF or the LOCK position. The gear shift lever must remain locked in the park position.
    15.3. Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the RUN position.
    15.4. Place the gear shift lever in the neutral position.
    15.5. With the gear shift lever in the neutral position, the steering column lock cylinder set must remain out of the OFF or the LOCK position.
    15.6. Place the gear shift lever in the park position.
    15.7. Put the steering column lock cylinder set in the OFF or the LOCK position.
    15.8. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  16. Install the upper and lower shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
