Important:: Perform a diagnostic system check and repair DTC(s) P0500, and P0501 before performing the following diagnstic.

Did you perform the OBD II System Check?

Go to Step 2

Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (4.3L), Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (5.0L/5.7L), Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (6.5), or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (7.4L)

  1. Remove the IP Cluster.
  2. • (Gas) Disconnect the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) connector C4.
    • (Diesel) Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C2 and Vehicle Speed Signal Buffer.
  3. Disconnect the Overspeed Alarm on Export vehicles.
  4. Connect a DMM (ohms) between pin 14 of the IP Cluster connector and cavity 4 of VCM C4 (Gas) or cavity 15 of the Vehicle Speed Signal Buffer (Diesel).

Does the resistance equal the value given?

0.5ohms

Go to Step 3

Replace the I/P Cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Locate and repair the cause of resistance in CKT 389 (DK GRN) between the IP Cluster and the VCM (Gas) or the Vehicle Speed Signal Buffer (Diesel). Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
