Schematic Reference: Outside Rearview Mirror Schematics

Did you review the Outside Mirror Description and Operation?

Go to Step 2

Go to Symptoms - Doors

Activate the outside rearview folding mirror switch in both the extend and retract positions.

Do both folding mirrors operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Are both the left and right folding mirrors completely inoperative?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 7

1. Disconnect the outside rearview folding mirror switch.
2. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit at the outside rearview folding mirror switch harness connector and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 12

Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit and the ground circuit at the outside rearview folding mirror switch harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 11

1. Connect the outside rearview folding mirror switch.
2. Connect a test lamp to a good ground.
3. Probe the folding mirror motor extend circuit at the outside rearview folding mirror switch harness connector.
4. Activate the outside rearview folding mirror switch in the extend position and note the test lamp.
5. Probe the folding mirror motor retract circuit at the outside rearview folding mirror switch harness connector.
6. Activate the outside rearview folding mirror switch in the retract position and note the test lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate in both positions?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 9

1. Disconnect the appropriate folding mirror.
2. Connect a test lamp between the folding mirror motor extend and retract circuits.
3. Operate the outside rearview folding mirror switch in both the extend and retract directions.

Does the test lamp illuminate in both directions?

Go to Step 10

Test for an open, short to ground or battery in the mirror motor extend and/or retract circuit(s). Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

Go to Step 9

Inspect for poor connections at the outside rearview folding mirror switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the power mirror. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open in the mirror switch ground circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 16

Repair the open or short to ground in the battery positive voltage circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 16

Repair the open, short to ground or battery in the mirror motor extend and/or retract circuit(s). Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

Replace the outside rearview folding mirror switch. Refer to Power Folding Outside Mirror Switch Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 16

Replace the power mirror. Refer to Outside Rearview Mirror Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
