SUBJECT: EXCHANGE PROGRAM -- INFORMATION ON 6.2L/6.5L DIESEL FUEL INJECTION PUMP EXCHANGE PROGRAM

MODELS: 1990-94 LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS WITH 6.2L/6.5L DIESEL ENGINES (VINS C, F, J, P - RPOS LH6, L65, LL4, L49)

THIS BULLETIN CONTAINS INFORMATION ON:

. PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE FOR TROUBLESHOOTING FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEMS.

. FUEL INJECTION PUMP EXCHANGE PROCEDURES WHICH WILL GO INTO EFFECT IN THE EVENT AN INTERNAL PUMP REPAIR IS REQUIRED.

UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, ANY 1990-94 6.2L/6.5L FUEL INJECTION PUMP REQUIRING INTERNAL REPAIR, IS TO BE REPLACED WITH AN EXCHANGE UNIT.

THE EXCHANGE PROGRAM WILL BE ADMINISTERED THROUGH THE G.M. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTRE (T.A.C.). FUEL INJECTION PUMP MUST NOT BE REMOVED PRIOR TO CONTACTING T.A.C.

SERVICE INFORMATION:

PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1. DIAGNOSE PROBLEM AND COMPLETE DIAGNOSTIC FORM GMP 71A (GMP 71B IN FRENCH) REFER TO CHECKLIST FORM.

2. ALL INCIDENTS MUST BE DOCUMENTED USING DIAGNOSTIC FORM GMP 71A (GMP 71B IN FRENCH) AND A T.A.C. CASE MUST BE OPENED.

3. DEALERSHIP REPAIR AUTHORITY IS LIMITED TO LABOUR OPERATIONS LISTED AT END OF THIS BULLETIN.

4. REFER TO SERVICE MANUAL FOR SERVICE INFORMATION AND SPECIFICATIONS.

5. A DIAGNOSTIC FORM IS INCLUDED IN THIS BULLETIN. ADDITIONAL FORMS (PADS OF 25 FORMS) ARE AVAILABLE FROM D.G.N. THROUGH REGULAR PUBLICATION ORDERING PROCEDURES.

6. INJECTION PUMPS ON 1989 AND PRIOR YEARS WILL BE REPAIRED AS IN THE PAST, NOT PART OF EXCHANGE PROGRAM.

WARRANTY EXCHANGE PROCEDURES:

1. CONTACT G.M. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTRE (T.A.C.) AS SOON AS YOU HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE SERVICE REQUIRED IS BEYOND YOUR AUTHORITY LEVEL. AT TIME OF CONTACT, YOU SHOULD HAVE THE COMPLETED DIAGNOSTIC FORM IN FRONT OF YOU, THIS IS NECESSARY TO VERIFY INJECTION PUMP REMOVAL.

2. FOLLOWING VERIFICATION OF INFORMATION THE T.A.C. OPERATOR WILL ISSUE A T.A.C. CASE NUMBER AND EXCHANGE PROCUREMENT INFORMATION.

WARRANTY CLAIM PROCESSING:

FOLLOW STANDARD CLAIM PROCESSING PROCEDURES, LABOUR OPERATIONS, DEALER AUTHORITY LEVEL, OPERATION DESCRIPTION:

1. ADJUST IDLE SPEED. 2. REPLACE ENGINE SHUT OFF SOLENOID (E.S.O.). 3. REPLACE E.S.O. SOLENOID COVER SEAL. 4. REPLACE H.P.C.A. SOLENOID. 5. REPLACE ELECTRICAL TERMINALS. 6. REPLACE TIMING LINE COVER GASKET.
