GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT A DEFECT WHICH RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN SOME 1980 CHEVROLET CITATION MODELS EQUIPPED WITH A V-6 ENGINE.
ON THESE VEHICLES, THE FUEL HOSES MAY BE INCORRECTLY POSITIONED AND COME IN CONTACT WITH THE RIGHT FRONT DRIVE AXLE BOOT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. THE ROTATING BOOT, AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME, COULD RUB A HOLE IN THE FUEL HOSE RESULTING IN FUEL LEAKAGE AND THE POTENTIAL OF A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.

VEHICLES HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED BY VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER COMPUTER LISTINGS. THE LISTINGS HAVE BEEN FURNISHED TO INVOLVED DEALERS WITH THE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN. ANY DEALER NOT RECEIVING A COMPUTER LISTING WITH THE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN WAS NOT SHIPPED ANY INVOLVED VEHICLES.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
NO OWNER NOTIFICATION WILL BE REQUIRED SINCE ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES ARE IN DEALER STOCK.
DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY
ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES ARE NOT TO BE SOLD BY THE DEALER UNTIL CAMPAIGN MODIFICATION HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. HOIST CAR. HOIST SHOULD BE POSITIONED AS FAR FORWARD AS POSSIBLE TO PROVIDE MAXIMUM ACCESS TO THE RIGHT FRONT DRIVE AXLE AREA.
2. REFER TO FIGURE 1. INSPECT FUEL HOSES FOR ABRAION DAMAGE AND REPLACE ANY HOSE WHICH IS DAMAGED. MAKE SURE THAT BOTH FUEL PIPES ARE RETAINED IN THE CLIP ATTACHED TO THE COWL PANEL.
3. WITH PIPES PROPERLY RETAINED IN CLIP, CHECK THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE HOSES AND THE DRIVE AXLE BOOT. THERE SHOULD BE A MINIMUM OF 3/4" CLEARANCE.
4. IF CLEARANCE IS LESS THAN 3/4", REFORM THE PIPES BY PUSHING UPWARD ON PIPES IN AREA WHERE HOSES ARE ATTACHED. (REFER TO FIGURE 1)
5. MAKE SURE PIPES ARE STILL RETAINED IN CLIP. IF CLIP HAS ONE LOOSE END, BEND LOOSE END UPWARD AND REARWARD TO PROPERLY RETAIN PIPES.
WARRANTY INFORMATION, FAILURE CODE, LABOR TIME ALLOWANCE, FAILED LABOR OPERATION AND CONDITION CODE
DEALERS ARE TO SUBMIT EACH CAMPAIGNED VEHICLE AS A SEPARATE CASE ON THE ONE-LINE WARRANTY CLAIM FORM, GSD-970.
THE CAMPAIGN FAILURE CODE, LABOR OPERATION NUMBER AND CONDITION CODE ARE TO BE SUBMITTED EXACTLY AS SHOWN ON THE EXAMPLE GSD-970 ONE-LINE CLAIM FORM INCLUDED IN THIS CAMPAIGN BULLETIN.
DEALERS SUBMITTING WARRANTY CLAIM APPLICATIONS ON THE CHEVROLET DEALER COMMUNICATION SYSTEM ARE TO SUBMIT CAMPAIGN CLAIMS VIA THE DEALER COMMUNICATION TERMINAL ACCORDING TO THE CAMPAIGN CLAIM PROCEDURE DOCUMENTED IN THE CHEVROLET "DEALER COMMUNICATION SYSTEM OPERATION GUIDE."

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL
EACH VEHICLE MODIFIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS OUT-LINED IN THIS PRODUCT CAMPAIGN BULLETIN WILL REQUIRE A "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL." EACH LABEL PROVIDES A SPACE TO INCLUDE THE FIVE DIGIT DEALER CODE OF THE DEALER PERFORMING THE CAMPAIGN SERVICE. THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INSERTED WITH A TYPEWRITER OR BALLPOINT PEN.

THE APPROPRIATE CAMPAIGN HANDLING AND ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE MAY BE FOUND IN THE CHEVROLET SERVICE POLICIES AND PROCEDURE MANUAL, SECTION 5, PAGES 1 AND 2, DATED OCTOBER, 1978, IN YOUR DEALERSHIP.
