C.C.C. WIRING HARNESS INTERFERENCE (A/C,A.I.R.)

SOME 1981 CITATIONS EQUIPPED WITH V-6 ENGINES MAY EXPERIENCE CHAFING AND/OR SEVERING OF THE C.C.C. WIRING HARNESS BY THE A/C COMPRESSOR OR A.I.R. PUMP PULLEYS, RESULTING IN POOR ENGINE PERFORMANCE AND/OR THE PRESENCE OF A "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT. THIS CONDITION CAN BE CORRECTED BY REPAIRING THE WIRING HARNESS AND INSTALLING THE CURRENT PRODUCTION HARNESS SUPPORT BRACKET AND ATTACHING PARTS FOLLOWING SERVICE PROCEDURE NOTED BELOW: 1.DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL. 2.DETACH THE ROSEBUD CLIP FROM THE A/C COMPRESSOR BRACE SECURING THE C.C.C. WIRING HARNESS AT THAT LOCATION AND REMOVE TAPE SECURING HARNESS TO FENDER BRACE. 3.INSPECT WIRING HARNESS AND SPLICE ANY CHAFED OR SEVERED WIRES WITHIN THE HARNESS ASSEMBLY FOLLOWING PROCEDURES OUTLINED IN THE 1981 COMPUTER COMMAND CONTROL SYSTEM SERVICE MANUAL SUPPLEMENT (REF. PAGES 6E1-65 THRU 6E1-67). NOTICE: ROSEBUD CLIP MUST BE SECURELY RETAINED TO THE WIRING HARNESS AFTER COMPLETION OF REPAIR TO PREVENT A REOCCURRENCE OF THE CONDITION. 4.POSITION WIRING HARNESS SUPPORT BRACKET, P/N 14039665, AND SECURE TO THE A/C COMPRESSOR BRACE UTILIZING SELF TAPPING SCREW, P/N 563485, THROUGH HOLE PREVIOUSLY USED FOR THE WIRING HARNESS ROSEBUD CLIP. TORQUE FASTENER TO 25 NM (18 FT.LBS.) UTILIZING A T-40 TORX DRIVING TOOL (REF. FIGURE 1). 5.ROUTE THE C.C.C. HARNESS THROUGH THE BRACKET AND SECURE BY INSTALLING HARNESS ROSEBUD CLIP INTO THE HOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE BRACKET (REF. FIGURE 2). 6.ROUTE THE VACUUM LINE TO THE DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE TRANSDUCER THROUGH THE BRACKET AND ABOVE THE C.C.C. HARNESS (REF. FIGURE 2). THE VACUUM LINE MAY HAVE TO BE DRAWN THROUGH THE TAPE BUNDLE TO PROVIDE REQUIRED LENGTH. 7.INSTALL CLIP, P/N 14039666, THROUGH SLOT IN SUPPORT BRACKET, POSITION HARNESS AND VACUUM LINE UNDER CLIP AND SECURE CLIP TO BRACKET UTILIZING SCREW, P/N 11503617, TORQUE TO 3 NM (26 IN.LBS.). INSURE THAT VACUUM LINE ROUTES THROUGH LOCATING FEATURE OF THE CLIP (REF. FIGURE 2). ** ILLUSTRATION **

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
