Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Close all of the doors.
  3. While observing the door ajar indicator, open and close each of the doors.

Is the door ajar indicator always off for any door, or always on?

Go to Step 3

Is the door ajar indicator always on?

Go to Step 8

Install a scan tool.

Perform the following procedure for each door on the vehicle.

  1. Open one door on the vehicle.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the appropriate door ajar input.

Does the scan tool display ON for either of the door ajar inputs without illuminating the door ajar indicator?

Go to Step 14

  1. Backprobe the suspect door ajar signal circuit at the body control module (BCM) with a test lamp connected to battery positive voltage.
  2. Open a corresponding vehicle door.

Does the test lamp illuminate when this door is opened?

Go to Step 11

Test the door ajar signal circuits into the BCM for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 15

Test the appropriate ground circuit to each door ajar switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 15

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Close all of the doors.
  3. With the scan tool, observe the door ajar switch inputs in the Lamp Status data list.

Does the scan tool display OFF for both of the door ajar inputs?

Test the appropriate door ajar signal circuit into the BCM for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 15

Inspect for poor connections at the appropriate door ajar switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the BCM. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.

Replace the defective door ajar switch. Refer to Front Side Door Lock Actuator Replacement .

Replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
