J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 174996  Size: SH
  1. Remove the left closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  2. Remove the left carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  3. Position the carpet aside.
  4. Remove the PCM and bracket. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls.
  5. Remove the park brake pedal assembly nuts (5).
  6. Remove the park brake pedal assembly (1).
  7. Disconnect the electrical connection from the pedal assembly.
  8. Remove the park brake cable (3) from the pedal attachment point (2).
  9. Using the J 37043 cable release tool, remove the cable from the park brake pedal at attachment point (4).

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the park brake cable (3) at points (2) and (4) to the park brake pedal (1).
  2. Connect the electrical connection to the pedal assembly (1).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the park brake pedal assembly.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the park brake pedal assembly nuts (5) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Install the left closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  7. Install the PCM and bracket. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls.
  8. Position the left carpet.
  9. Install the left carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  10. Parking brake adjustment is not necessary. This is a self adjusting system and damage may result from attempting to adjust or modify this system in any way. It may be necessary to adjust the rear brakes to obtain the proper tension in the system. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment In Drum Brake.
