Removal Procedure
- Remove the grille. Refer to
Grille Replacement
in Exterior Trim.
- Disconnect the hood release cable from the hood latch by squeezing
the hood release cable retainer.
- Remove the hood latch release cable from the retainer at the radiator
support panel.
- Remove the left sound insulator panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in Instrument Panel,
Gages, and Console.
- Remove the left front carpet retainer. Refer to
Carpet Retainer Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Fold the carpet down to access the hood latch cable grommet.
- Remove the hood latch
release cable screw from the handle.
- Remove the hood latch release cable handle from the front hinge
pillar.
- Remove the hood latch release cable from the handle by pressing
the tabs together.
Important: Ensure the end of the wire or string remains in the passenger compartment.
- Tie a wire or string to the end of the hood release cable in order to
aid in the installation of the new hood release cable.
- Pull the grommet from
the engine compartment into the passenger compartment.
Clean
the old sealant from instrument panel hole.
- Remove the hood latch release cable from the instrument panel.
- Remove the wire or string
from the hood release cable (1).
Installation Procedure
- Tie the wire or string
to the hood latch release cable (1).
- Install the hood latch release cable through the hole in the instrument
panel.
- Apply sealer to the grommet. Pull the grommet from the engine
compartment side until the grommet is seated in the instrument panel hole.
- Remove the wire or string from the hood release cable.
- Install the hood latch release cable to the retainer at the radiator
support panel.
- Install the hood latch release cable to the hood latch.
- Install the hood latch release cable to the handle.
- Install the hood latch release cable handle to the hinge pillar.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the hood latch release cable screw.
Tighten
Tighten the hood latch release cable handle screw to 2.5 N·m
(22 lb in).
- Fold the carpet back to the original position.
- Install the left sound insulator panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in Instrument Panel,
Gages, and Console.
- Install the left front carpet retainer. Refer to
Carpet Retainer Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Install the grille. Refer to
Grille Replacement
in Exterior Trim.
