Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the instrument panel I/P carrier. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  2. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering.

  3. Object Number: 746415  Size: SH
  4. Remove the bolt from the bracket joining the cross vehicle beam to the HVAC module.

  5. Object Number: 746666  Size: SH
  6. Release the body control module from the cross vehicle beam.
  7. Remove HVAC duct work from the cross vehicle beam.

  8. Object Number: 743505  Size: SH
  9. Remove the 2 remaining bolts for the steering column brace.

  10. Object Number: 291494  Size: SH
  11. Remove the nuts and bolts joining the cross vehicle beam (1) to the front of the dash (2).

  12. Object Number: 743507  Size: SH
  13. Remove the cross vehicle beam from the vehicle.
  14. Remove the defroster duct.
  15. Remove the right side window defogger duct.
  16. Remove the left side window defogger duct.
  17. Unsnap the lap air duct from the air distribution duct.

  19. Remove the wiring harness from the left end of the air distribution duct.

  20. Object Number: 593711  Size: SH
  21. Remove the air distribution duct bolts.
  22. Remove the air distribution duct from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 593711  Size: SH
  1. Install the air distribution duct on the pins of the HVAC module assembly.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the air distribution bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  5. Install the wiring harness to the left end of the air distribution duct.
  6. Snap the lap duct to the air distribution duct.
  7. Install the left side window defogger duct. .
  8. Install the right side window defogger duct. .
  9. Install the defroster duct.

  10. Object Number: 291494  Size: SH
  11. Install the cross vehicle beam (1) to the front of the dash (2).
  12. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   13. Install the nuts and bolts for the cross vehicle beam.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut and bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  15. Install the steering column mounting brace bolts.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).

  17. Install HVAC duct work to the cross vehicle beam.

  18. Object Number: 746666  Size: SH
  19. Install the body control module to the cross vehicle beam.

  20. Object Number: 743462  Size: SH
  21. Connect the wiring harness to the cross vehicle beam.

  22. Object Number: 746415  Size: SH
  23. Install the bolt retaining the cross vehicle beam to the HVAC module.
  24. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  25. Install the instrument panel I/P carrier. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
