Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 867552 Size: SH

Important: If the location of the original plug weld holes cannot be determined, space the plug weld holes every 40 mm (1½ in) apart.

  1. Drill 8 mm (5/16 in) plug weld holes in the service part as necessary in the locations noted from the original panel.
  2. Prepare all mating surfaces as necessary.
  3. Apply GM-approved Weld-Thru Coating or equivalent to all mating surfaces. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair .

  4. Object Number: 867548 Size: SH
  5. Position the rail to the vehicle.

  6. Object Number: 867521 Size: SH
  7. Plug weld accordingly.
  8. Clean and prepare all of the welded surfaces.
  9. Install all related panels and components.
  10. Apply sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair .
  11. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Install the suspension crossmember. Refer to Frame Replacement .
  13. Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 100 N·m (74 lb ft) plus 180 degrees.
