DEFINITION: This diagnostic should be used to diagnose a failure of one door lock actuator or door lock switch.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Monitor both the Door Lock Switch and Decoded Switch State data parameters on the scan tool.
  3. Activate both door lock switches, one at a time, to both the lock and unlock positions.

Do the Door Lock Switch Data parameters change state properly with each door lock switch activation?

Did all the door lock actuators lock and unlock with both switches?

  1. Disconnect the inoperative door lock switch.
  2. Connect a test lamp to battery voltage.
  3. Probe the door lock switch ground circuit.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

With a DMM, measure the available voltage at the inoperative door lock switch signal circuit.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

10-12 V

  1. Disconnect the inoperative door lock actuator.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the door lock actuator lock and unlock control circuits.
  3. With a scan tool, command the doors to lock and unlock.

Did the test lamp illuminate with each scan tool lock and unlock command?

Test for an open in the door lock switch signal circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for an open in the door lock actuator lock and unlock control circuits. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the door lock switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
