DEFINITION: This diagnostic table should be used to diagnose an inoperative front passenger power window. This diagnostic assumes that PWR WINDOWS fuse is good and that any shorts to ground in the accessory voltage, power window master switch up and down signal and power window up and down control circuits have been repaired.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Operate the front passenger power window from both the driver and passenger power window switches.

Did the front passenger power window operate properly from both switches?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Did the front passenger power windows operate properly from the front passenger power window switch and not the driver power window switch?

Go to Step 10

Did the front passenger power window operate properly from the driver power window switch?

Go to Step 7

  1. Disconnect the front passenger power window switch.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the power window master switch up and down signal circuits.
  4. Activate the driver power window switch in the up and down positions.

Does the test lamp illuminate with each switch activation?

Go to Step 6

  1. Connect the front passenger power window switch.
  2. Disconnect the front passenger power window motor.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the power window motor up and down control circuits.
  4. Activate the front passenger power window switch in the up and down positions.

Does the test lamp illuminate with each switch activation?

Test the front passenger power window switch accessory voltage circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the power window master power window switch up and down signal circuits for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Disable the window lockout function.
  3. Operate the rear passenger power windows from both the driver and rear passenger power window switches.

Did the rear passenger power windows operate properly from both switches?

Did the rear passenger power windows operate properly from the rear passenger power window switches?

Did the rear passenger power windows operate properly from the driver power window switch?

  1. Disconnect the rear passenger power window switch.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the power window master switch up and down signal circuits.

  2. Disconnect the rear passenger power window motor.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the power window motor up and down control circuits.
