Do any indicators illuminate when the chime sounds?

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition.
  3. Turn the headlamp switch to OFF.
  4. Open the driver door.

Does the chime sound?

Go to Step 4

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, perform the Chime Test in the instrument panel cluster (IPC).

Does the chime stop when you select OFF?

With a scan tool, observe the Park Lamp Input in the body control module (BCM) Lamp Status data list.

Does the Park Lamp Input parameter display Inactive?

Go to Step 6

  1. Close the drivers door.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Driver Door Ajar SW parameter in the BCM Lamp Status data list.

Does the Driver Door Ajar SW parameter display OFF?

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the BCM connector C2.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the park lamp switch on input circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition.
  3. Disconnect the BCM connector C2.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the key in ignition signal circuit and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the park lamp switch on input circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the key in ignition signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the headlamp switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the multifunction turn signal switch assembly. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

Important: Inspect the steering column for signs of damage before replacing the ignition switch.
