Circuit Description

The body control module (BCM) controls the rear compartment courtesy lamp. The BCM supplies voltage to control the lighting functions. The BCM monitors the rear compartment lamp control circuit for proper operation.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B2570 Trunk Lamp Output

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • B2570 02 will set if there is a short to ground in the rear compartment lamp control circuit.
    • B2570 05 will set if there is an open or short to voltage in the rear compartment lamp control circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The rear compartment lamp control circuit output will be disabled.
    • Stores a DTC B2570 in the BCM memory

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • This DTC requires an ignition cycle in order to change from current to history.
    • The BCM no longer detects continuous battery voltage on the rear compartment lamp control circuit.
    • A history DTC will clear after 50 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present.

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Connect a scan tool and command the rear compartment courtesy lamp on and off.

Does the rear compartment courtesy lamp operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Observe the rear compartment courtesy lamp.

Is the lamp always ON?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 4

Inspect the condition of the rear compartment courtesy lamp bulb.

Is the bulb burned out?

Go to Step 8

Test for an open, high resistance, or short to ground in the rear compartment lamp control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Test for a short to voltage in the rear compartment lamp control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs.

Replace the rear compartment courtesy lamp bulb. Refer to Cargo Lamp Replacement .

Replace the BCM. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming.

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Setting the DTC as specified in the supporting text.
